I was finally able to complete a craft project--my first since becoming a mom. It feels good to have finished something! We're all thankful to RJ for taking a couple of good naps today.

I was inspired by the alphabet from the Vintage Biker Nursery I saw on Design on a Dime the other day. I used tin snips to cut letters out of old license plates and then attached the letters to some fence posts that I painted with a wash of barn red paint.

Although I have been collecting license plates for years, sure I would find a great craft project to use them in, I didn't have enough for our name. Luckily I get my collection instinct from my Dad who shared plates from his collection, some of which dated back to the specially distributed 1976 plates that are light blue and red.

So I swore that once I had a son, that I'd pull dad's ole train set out of storage & try to restore it to a working condition. For those of you not familiar with it, it's the Lionel (O-scale) train set Grandpa Rajewski gave him sometime around 1949.. Dad would have been 5 at that time. If your familiar with Lionel history, the factory was actually very close to my Grandparent's house, in Mount Clemens, MI. I recall abusing the crap out of this as a young boy (it was still functioning at the time) on the floor of our garage in Westland as well as going on trips to the factory once or twice. My hope was to restore it & have it running under our xmas tree this year so RJ could experince some family history.

Beginning with the Locomotive; I have a Lionel 675(-47) 2-6-2 Prairie with Tender.

I also have the 6465 Double Dome Oil Car, as well as the 6472 Refrigerator Car and (2) 6462 Gondola Cars

And to round things out, there's the 6457 SP-Type Caboose (variation b) and the Lionel #400 Baltimore & Ohio BUDD/RDC-1 Motorized Passenger Car

I also have a slew of rusted track (not worth much) and the original transformer & connectors, as well as the original bottle for the smoke fluid that you could add to the Locomotive.

Woo hoo! RJ has hit the four month mark and is officially eating real food - rice cereal. So far he's been excited to eat the real stuff. He's also just beginning to sit in his high chair which is making him pretty happy.

After getting a plea from a friend with a tall 12 month old who has been cold at night I managed to squeeze in a little sewing. Joe did his part taking care of RJ while I put together this sweet little sleeper. I love sewing fleece--it's so fast since there is almost no finishing. I made contrasting sleeves because I didn't have quite enough pink fabric and now I kind of love how it looks especially the bee I cut out from the navy fabric to applique on the chest. How fun to sew something so pink and girly.

So RJ's started on solid foods, and as evident by this video... seems to be taking like a fish to water to his new food format. That & he loves his new hockey stick (why wouldn't he, it appears he's a natural!) A shout out to Dan, Carla & the kids (Ann's Uncle)... thanks for the gift! My mission now is to get some skates on him before he turns 1!

On Friday my friend Nancy and I took the resort car, which included fresh waffles and other yummy breakfast items, on the ski train up to Winter Park. We spent a couple of hours on snow mobiles and then were treated to lunch in a room overlooking the slopes. After a quick tour we were off to the bar for a drink and then back on the train for soup and sandwiches on the way home. What a great day especially since I was actually working the entire time! Everyone should want to grow up to be an event planner. I'm not exactly an event planner anymore but am happy to fill in as necessary.

P.S. Yes, that is fresh snow. Winter Park got six inches on Thursday night which made for great conditions Friday morning.

the storm of the season is finally here! They're saying 12-18"... It was a clear drive in, up until Superior... then the snow kicked in (I should been awake enough @ 6am to check the roads, but alas I didn't).

Boulder isn't all that bad, Superior on the other hand is getting a beat-down. I'm not a meteorologist, but I think the wind is sustained @ 20mph+ & it's snowing pretty aggressively. I'd be safe in suggesting these are blizzard conditions! Ann on the other hand tells me the roads are just wet down near the house in Littleton...

'Nana (aka Grandma Rajewski) was in town over the holiday weekend to attend Kelsey's graduation, however we believe she was here to soak up time with Robert, as evident by this photo!

RJ's best friend, Truitt, celebrated his first birthday last Saturday. In honor of the occasion Truitt's mom, Melissa, Angie and I spent the evening before baking and decorating cakes. We made three in order to feed the crowd of 50 that RSVP'd. The dog shaped cake was made of a chocolate pudding, chocolate chip cake with dark chocolate frosting. One kid, who's mom doesn't let believe in feeding her children refined sugar, ate two big pieces. We hope to hear how their hour long ride home went. That kid probably ate the same amount of sugar in a half hour that most kids eat in a month! We can't wait for RJ's birthday when we can do it all over again. We are on the look out for a good, moist yellow cake recipe that works at high altitude so if you have a suggestion let us know. The yellow cake recipe we used was not as good as we wanted it to be. Anyway, I'm thinking RJ might get some sort of monster on his cake...

RJ has finally gotten to the point where he can feed himself more than just cheerios and he loves it. Unfortunately with only two front teeth it's hard to chew so he's been putting as much food as he can fit in his mouth and then just spits it all back out after a while. Doesn't matter, it still makes him happy.

Sakari has kindly offered to be the clean up crew and RJ is quite happy whit the plan. When Sakari cleans off RJ's hand it's all giggles and joy. When I use a nice warm wash cloth to wipe off RJ's hands I get pushed away and big screams. As one of my friends posted the other day "too bad, I'm the boss, applesauce!"
